Marquees are a great option for your wedding party, particularly in the summer and provide a blank canvas to add your own personal touch. Even if white is your colour theme and you want a clean look but without any decoration at all, the space can look a little bit empty.
You will want to decorate your marquee in some way to tie in with your wedding theme and the obvious answer is to put up colourful fabric around the interior. Items that stand freely, or sit on top of something, or can be hung are a fabulous alternatives.
These are my pick of items to consider when planning your wedding party décor….
1) Popular right now are marquee letters. These are freestanding letter shaped light boxes that look fabulous in white against a black sheet backdrop, or in colour against the white of the marquee. They can stand on the floor, or atop a side table. You can hire these, buy them online, or even make your own. Just imagine your new married Mr & Mrs names in lights!
2) Lighting is a good way of adding colour and style to your marquee. Always check you will have an electricity supply, and you can hire all sorts of lights from freestanding floor lamps, to disco lights, and fake fire pits. Fairy lights can be hung from the poles with some tie wrap, though you should check with your marquee supplier first, and take care to prevent light bulbs touching the fabric.
3) Table linen is fabulous for adding colour to an otherwise white room. Table coverings don’t have to be in white or cream, and you can get table cloths in a huge array of colours including lilac, deep reds, and even black. If a brightly coloured tablecloth is a scary thought, then you can team up white cloths with coloured or patterned table runners instead.
4) Bunting is a lovely way of adding colour. It can be hung relatively easily between the marquee poles both inside and out. If the marquee company really don’t like anything hanging, then you can get hold of some freestanding poles and hang the bunting between them instead. With bunting, you can create your own to match your colour scheme, and even print your own fabric with personal quotes, or family photos.
5) Flowers are a key feature at a wedding. Get more to match in with your colour scheme and use them as centrepieces to add colour all around the room. Hiring some freestanding flower display columns will allow you to place some flowers in key positions in the room, for example either side of doorways. A flower arch adds colour and helps you with your grand entrance as Mr and Mrs.
Decorating your marquee doesn’t have to be daunting. Keep it simple by picking a few statement pieces and embrace the blank canvas you have been given.
